Our Experience

With over 50 years of experience in contracting, it is fair to say that there is not much that Dartmouth General Contractors Limited haven’t completed. From working at number 10 Downing Street, to distribution centres, from reactive to pre-planned works, from high street retailers, to one off boutique stores, we really have half a century of experience.

When considering a new contract, we can work with you by tender, schedule of rates, agreement or negotiation, and are always happy to demonstrate our competitiveness in the tendering process.

The breadth and depth of our capabilities ensures we can meet our client’s specific requirements and deliver high quality projects through precise planning and delivery, enforced with our ISO 9001 qualification.

Dartmouth General Contractors Limited work nationally on projects from £1k to beyond £1.5 million.

Our Team

Our staff’s skills and experience have allowed us to not only expand but to diversify. As a company, we built our reputation on discreet, efficient refurbishments, concession work and extensions across the retail and leisure sectors. Those services are still central to what we do.

Since 2011 we have expanded our offering to include much larger projects and complete
new-builds. Helping to enable this scale of expansion are a great many new members of staff. They extend not just our numbers, but also our skills, expertise and experience.

Our Accreditations and Awards

In 2018 at the prestigious Considerate Constructors scheme awards Dartmouth General Contractors Limited were awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold, placing us in the top 3% of contractors in the UK.

Co-op Group have also awarded us with an innovation award for Health and Safety for an initiative completed during a re-branding roll out.

Dartmouth Heritage

Founded in 1969 by Michael Dartmouth, this family-run business continues to prosper. In the past we have worked for clients as diverse as The Prime Ministers Residence No 10 Downing Street to London’s Barbican Centre. 

Over the past four decades, Dartmouth’s business has evolved and substantially grown, earning a reputation for high-quality work, with excellent levels of customer service.

From 1969 – 1979
The company was involved in domestic plumbing and central heating for the MoD and Southern Gas Board. It was also responsible for the conversion from Town Gas to North Sea Gas nationally.

From 1980 – 1989
During the 80’s we diversified from domestic contracting to larger nationwide commercial contracts, working in all the Navy Land Bases and retail refurbishment and food retailers.

From 1990 – 1999
The team at Dartmouth dedicated their time to meeting the needs of their supermarket clients and built their skills around their requirements.

2000 Onwards
Since the millennium we have extended our client base of big names in the supermarket world to other leading retailers, as well as clients in the financial and leisure sectors. In addition to our local projects, Dartmouth General Contractors Limited continues to undertake work as a Main Contractor for blue-chip multi-national retailers.

• Basingstoke Hospital Charity Bed Push
A charity event that raised over £6,000 for North Hampshire Medical Fund.

• Sponsored Abseil
Abseiling down Arundel Castle for Winston’s Wish Charity.

• Torbay Sea Scout Hut
A weekend of volunteers to refurbish a scout hut.

• Local School Bug Hotel
A hotel made from left over materials at a local project.

• Mud Kitchen donated to Medstead Primary School
We donated a Mud Kitchen made from recycled materials.

We care about the environment

In 2009 we gained our ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for environment management, and an award achieved, at the time, by less than 1% of UK businesses

The independent assessor, QMS Quality Management Systems, paid particular tribute to “the investment in people and training that enables Dartmouth to provide an efficient and environmentally friendly service to their customers.”
